Speech-Speech chimeras are formed by pairing two utterances matched in length. With speech-speech chimeras, listeners rarely hear the utterance having the same fine structure, regardless of the number of frequency bands. They are thus unable to use the fine structure information if it conflicts with the highly-modulated envelope from the other sound. When the speech-speech chimeras are synthesized with more than 4-6 frequency bands, listeners frequently hear the utterance having the same envelope, showing that they are able to utilize envelope information despite the conflicting fine structure from the other utterance.
